Python Programming Language History

  • December 1989
    • Python derived from ABC language which is general purpose language developed at CWI guido used to work at.
    • CWI were working on a new operating system called AMOEBA, Guido started looking for a scripting language with a syntax like ABC but with the access to the Amoeba system calls. So he started designing a new simple scripting language that could overcome the flaws of ABC.
  • February 1991
    • Python first code published (version 0.9.0) with ABC basics and classes with inheritance, exception handling, functionality and core data types
  • January 1994
    • Python first full version (1.0) with complete functional programming features, and stuff like lambda, reduce(), filter() and map()
    • At this stage, python got so many features like keyword arguments and built-in support for complex numbers
  • October 2000
    • Python (2.0) was released with new features like garbage collection, memory management and support of unicode
    • Python moved to BeOpen team and then  Guido  and the other developers joined digital creations
    • Python developed so much at that stage of history
    • The major thing was python 2.7 on July 2010
  • Python 3.x
    • python moved to  a new phase into 2008 by moving to python 3
